As such, the financial institution and its affiliates are involved in the banking, real estate, and consumer products industries. Also, the bank’s retail banking services include debit orders, credit cards, house loans, personal loans, credit insurance, and savings accounts, among others. Instructions for creating a Capitec bank account

First let’s talk about how to open a Capitec account before delving into how to transfer money using Capitec. Capitec is a digital bank whose mission is to make banking easier for its customers. As such, owning a Capitec account is simple, quick, and safe. Additionally, a new card will be on its way after you complete the online registration by downloading the app and following a few instructions.

Taking a selfie with the app allows it to scan your facial features and generate a biometric signature using advanced facial recognition technology. Afterwards, this will be checked against the Department of Home Affairs database immediately to ensure that you are who you say you are.

In order to get started, you’ll need to have:

  • Your SA ID number
  • A smartphone
  • A functional email address 
  • An SA cellphone number

Create an account by following the steps below:

  • Get the Capitec app from Google Play, Huawei, or the Apple App Store
  • Fill in your South African ID number
  • Snap some self-portraits as required

After the above, you’re done and you can instantly begin using the app for all of your banking needs. Meanwhile, as you wait for your real card to arrive in the mail, you can use the virtual version to make purchases online.

How to transfer money using Capitec

You can send money from your Capitec account using the app option, Internet banking, and the USSD feature.

Firstly, here’s how to transfer money using to the Capitec app:

  • Click Send cash and enter your Remote PIN
  • Tap the button to send cash
  • Choosers “From” account
  • Type in the amount you want to transfer
  • Create a 4-digit secret code (the money receiver will need it to collect the cash)
  • Accept the terms and conditions 
  • Click Yes to confirm the transaction
  • You’ll receive an SMS with the reference number – send it to the recipient
  • Send the secret code to the recipient in a separate message

Furthermore, here’s how to transfer money using Capitec Internet banking

  • Sign in on Internet banking
  • Click Continue to send cash
  • Select ‘From’ account
  • Enter the amount you want to send
  • Create the 4-digit secret code
  • Open the Capitec app and approve the authorisation message

Additionally, here’s how to send cash using Capitec USSD

  • Dial *120*3279# and reply 9
  • Accept the terms and conditions
  • Choose “From” account
  • Enter the amount you want to send
  • Create a 4-digit secret code (your recipient will need it for cash collection)
  • Enter your Mobile Banking PIN
  • You’ll receive the reference number for the cash you send on your registered cellphone number
  • Send the SMS to the recipient, who needs the reference number to collect the cash
  • Remember to send the secret code in a separate message, because it won’t show in the SMS

How to view your money transfer history using Capitec Internet banking

There are times you may want to track your expenses for different reasons. Therefore, to view your Capitec transfer history, check the following:

  • Sign in on Internet banking
  • Click View my Send Cash history

How to collect money transferred from Capitec

All you need to do is visit any Capitec ATM, Usave, Game, Makro, Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Boxers or Builders store near you.

Meanwhile, please note the following:

  • If you’re collecting from Capitec partner stores, tell the teller you have a cash transfer from a Capitec account
  • The teller should request for the reference number
  • You’ll also need to provide the secret code
  • Some may ask you to confirm your name, surname, and cellphone number
  • Once validated, the cash will be paid to you instantly
  • After your identity has been verified, the funds will be given to you immediately

What happens if you have trouble getting your money?

Please call their client care centre on 0860 10 20 43 if the cash payout cannot be processed for any reason.
